The LUT Study visit was conducted at LUT (Lappeenranta University of Technology), where we spent four days getting to know the Finnish university and tech ecosystem.
Day one gave us many presentations and workshops about the LUT’s approach to integrating entrepreneurial concepts into their curriculum and the practical nature of engineering and other technical disciplines.
We also left the building for some “icebreakers” and networking before lunch.
We had visits from faculty but also we got to hear about the Finnish government’s approach to fostering and attracting businesses.
The afternoon concluded with a really useful workshop on how to use Mailchimp to create a website and mailing campaign.
Day two was an opportunity to visit a Science class at LUT Junior University, followed by a group trip to the City of Lappeenranta and Yrityskyla., and their unique concept for teaching children grades 6-9 about innovation, working , and careers.
We had an amazing networking dinner.
Day three started off with a Creative Problem Solving workshop that really forced us to think!
Then after lunch we learned about Finnsh language and culture at the Kieli Center.
Followed by a visit to the Jamie Hyneman Center, the prototyping lab at LUT with truly amazing technology and equipment so students can build and test their concepts.
And a barbeque, swim and sauna in the land of the midnight sun!
Day four was a ful day including meetings with LUT students, startups, and a faculty roundtable about “Working with Industry”
Day five highlighted by a visit to Lehmus coffee – the best homegrown brew in town! It was a great opportunity for all the partners to network together before parting ways to go back to our home institutions.
